Spirit Day [Oct. 4th, 2010|11:46 pm]

It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

RIP Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh (top)
RIP Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase (middle)
RIP Asher Brown and Billy Lucas. (bottom)

REBLOG to spread a message of love, unity and peace.

Continuing a tangent from the last thread, I'm going to post a video before we head to Charleston (Casey's a bridesmaid in a wedding--sadly extra visiting will be kept to a minimum)...

While I'm awake, a fun story I forgot to tell from Ocean City--Vinny spotted and lunged after an Uglydoll at a kite shop. On the way back to the hotel, new friend in baby-hand, we decided to give him a name after chancing upon the half-lit sign of one of Ocean City's Candy Kitchen shops; rather than reading "CANDY KITCHEN", it spelled out "ANDY CHEN". So now we have an Asian Uglydoll.

Back from Ocean City! First time to an actual beach in 17 years, and first time I've actually been able to really enjoy it  (Bradenton was a bit choppy and rainy as I recall). Must go back!

Highlights:
--being attacked by large waves
--the Ripley's Odditorium
--the boardwalk, and all the awesome foodstuffs there, including:
  --gelato
--deep-fried Oreos, Twinkies, and Snickers bars
  --mahi tuna fingers

Unfortunately I'm rather red right now, as I don't really tan that well. But yes, again, I must do this again sometime... preferably with fewer people (this turned into a very extended family road trip, for better or worse) and more days to do stuff in.

Writer's Block: A rose by any other name [Jun. 7th, 2010|10:13 pm]

Do you like your birth name? If you had the opportunity to change it, would you? What new name would you choose?

It took me 15 years to really grow into "Leonard" in any real sense. My parents called me "Lee", mainly because my mom knew a particularly unflattering fellow named Lenny. In any case I always thought Jack woulda been a cooler name.

This stuck until I got shuffled into another school district in Oakland County; nobody knew me as Lee, and the teachers all read the "Leonard" on the attendance sheets. One girl--these things always start with a girl--started calling me Lenny, and I liked the ring of it. By the time I left Michigan I was signing my name Lenny, and I've been going by it ever since.

Spent this weekend in Huntington... bloody hell I missed that place. The most pleasant weekend I've had in a good long while--just bugging my old peeps, having a couple beers, and soaking up everything that made me enjoy living there.

@irishirr (WSAZ's Tim Irr): the evil guy in this cartoon (1:00 in) sounds just like @erikonthex (106.3's Erik Raines) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAMm7XwdD_M
@aceface905 (guess who): I always thought he sounded like Zorak
@_zorak_ (Zorak):
Who sounds like me?
Me:
you sound like Huntington WV radio guy @erikonthex
Zorak: I do?
Me:
Yeah, you should give him a listen. Nowhere near as awesome as @reevis927 (Planet 92.7's Reevis, my old boss), but then he doesn't sound like an intergalactic evildoer
Erik:
Really?
Me:
yes, in related news you are now being listened to on the Ghost Planet
Erik:
I disagree...
Me:
...I'd kill to've be listened to on the Ghost Planet, Brak would've been my #1 fan
Zorak:
I make evil sound badder
Me:
yes, but are you more metal than @erikonthex ? THE UNIVERSE DEMANDS PROOF

I haven't had this much fun on the internet in years :^D
